What is hydroponics
Hydroponics…the term sure has received a lot of attention lately. Whether you’re new to the art of gardening or you’ve had a green thumb for years, hydroponics offers something for everyone. So what is “hydroponics” exactly and how can it benefit you?
What is Hydroponics?
Hydroponics is simply the art of growing plants without soil in a nutrient based solution. Basically, instead of growing in soil, hydroponic plants are grown in vessels filled with nutrient rich water. Because there is no soil needed, hydroponic plants can be grown almost anywhere, regardless of weather or terrain. This makes it possible to grow fresh fruits and vegetable year round. With no weeds and an optimized growing environment, hydroponically grown plants grow bigger and healthier in a shorter amount of time.
The Hydroponic System
A hydroponic system typically includes the plants, the nutrient filled water, reservoirs for draining and feeding and in some cases, grow lights. The hydroponic system can be as simple as one plant in a cup of water on your kitchen windowsill or as elaborate as a large scale commercially operated facility. For years, consumers have been purchasing hydroponically grown fruits and vegetables in efforts to eat nutritious, healthy and delicious food.
